Why Do Commerce Students Learn the Japanese Language? Based on these opportunities in Japan for Commerce students.

This post is especially written for Commerce students, CA & CMA professionals.

Japan is known as ‘Land of Rising Sun’ and it has always been a marvelous economy which was ranked between one & two world’s top economies since last 30 years. Currently Japan is the world’s 3rd largest economy. It implies that since then Japan has been a hub of manufacturing and service sectors. This therefore throws umpteen job opportunities at Japan.

I have been living in Japan for the last 4 years. Indian professionals all spread across the globe and are glorifying our country with their expertise, dedication and commitment. However, at Japan, we can hardly trace few Indians working in the area of “Finance & Control function”.
I opted to be at Japan in connection with my ex-employer as an internal transfer to their Japan based plant.

Initially I was totally unaware of Japan in terms of culture, practices, professional approaches. Language was one of the biggest challenges. Above all I felt I will face challenges being from commerce background.

However, once I moved to Japan, I started learning a Japanese language and proudly continue to do so even now.

I believe majority of Indians with IT and Technical people are coming to Japan after completing their professional courses. As you know our Indian IT companies are in demand worldwide and always grab big projects due to expertise at fairly less cost. Japanese companies are also not an exception to attract Indian IT companies. Hence these IT companies need onsite people to work in Japan. This is the way that IT & Technical people get the opportunity to work in Japan.

Nevertheless, there are many engineers who put lots efforts to gain japanese languages experties and grab opportunities in Japan by themselves.

But for commerce people it’s quite difficult without achieving Japanese language proficiency. It needs to be understood that at Japan all transactions are done ONLY in Japanese language. Example even “YES/NO” , “Thank You” has its own local words. Quite obvious that there absence of English language.

Now, just try to find out how many commerce graduates, CA or CMA people learnt or are learning japanese language. Just 1 per person out of 1000. And that one person too must have been working in the IT field.

This shows that there are no commerce graduates, CA or CMA people with Japanese language expertise with experience in Finance & Controlling. And it’s hardly possible to find a person with above experience plues SAP FI CO.

Why am I so sure about this? Because in January 2020, I was looking for a Indian person with a bilingual japanese who is a commerce graduate or CA or CMA qualified candidate with 3-4 years of Finance work experience in SAP for my department. But unfortunately I am unable to find a person with above skills sets. (Please note that position is already filled)

Then I concluded that in India, a commerce background person or CA or CMA person with industrial experience is not interested to learn japanese language.

So this is really a great opportunity for all commerce students or CA or CMA people to learn and develop your skill in Japanese Language. Because:
1) Japan has lots of job opportunities in Finance & Controlling. As per Japan government data of November 2019, there are 160 jobs available for every 100 people. Because the population of Japan is decreasing rapidly. This creates a shortage of manpower and in the next 10 years this shortage will be even more.

2) Salaries in Japan vary based on your skills and experience, but minimum you can earn 30-40 lacs Japanese Yen or more. As per current foreign exchange rate 30 lacs X 0.70 paise = 21 lacs rupees.
3) It is possible to learn Japanese language (N2 business level) in 3-4 years. So if you are doing your commerce or any graduation and reading this post then definitely you can learn Japanese language and will be able come to Japan by yourself.
4) Once you learn Japanese language (N2 business level) then there is no need to be fluent in English, just relax because here in Japan everything is in Japanese language only.
5)Japanese language is easy to learn and it’s similar to our Indian languages. Because Japanese language grammar is exactly the same Indian languages as Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu. So learn it in your mother tongue instead of English.
6) After graduation, you can give IELTS or GMAT exams and you can come to Japan to do your Post-Graduation with 100% scholarship from Japanese universities and Japanese government.
7) If you have 3-4 years work experience and japanese language skills then you can directly apply for Post-Graduation with 100% scholarship from japanese universities and japanese government.
8) All commerce students should learn Japanese language up to N2 level beginning from 11th or 12th or while you are doing graduation. Just you have to devote, weekly 3-4 hours for study. This will create an opportunity for you to work in Japanese Company in India after your graduation.

Why only Japan ?
Understand this point, if people from western counties are interested to work or to do business in Japan, it means in Japan there is something more than western countries.

You can use Google to find out more about Japan. In a few days I will post on my blog. So please follow for updates.
