Looking forward to studying abroad?? But …

  • Thinking about financial issues ?
  • What would happen if you get quality education and living for almost free of cost or minimal cost ?
  • Would you like to grab the opportunity ?

A better opportunity is waiting for you in the world’s best technologically developed country… I hope you have guessed it??…..!!!!!!

Yes, you are right, it’s none other than Japan.

And this blog is about proceeding your higher education in Japan. Don’t worry about the originality of the content, for sure it’s not spam.

All the below described were from my personal experience at Japan as a student (Final year Master’s degree) formerly an Automotive engineer in India as well Japan.

Firstly, I would like to give an overall idea about the education system in Japan.

  1. Public universities ( Technical universities & University for Arts)
  2. Private Universities
  3. Language teaching schools (Japan).

Basically people who would like to start their career in Japan after graduation from their own countries usually take this option.

  • To join language schools in India
  • and come to Japan, to learn a higher level of japanese language,
  • after a year or more complete a higher level of japanese language course
  • and get an opportunity to work with some organisations in Japan.

But in this blog we will discuss a major factor about Studying in Japan. (other than Japanese Language studies)

When you start thinking about studying abroad the major countries which come to your mind are the USA, Canada, Australia and Germany or the UK. Because firstly those are english speaking countries and most of us have known friends and neighbors who did their education or else working there.

But when you hear about Japan it’s quite strange right ?

But don’t worry, actually Japan is now focussing to improve their educational system. Also japanese government wants to attract more international students and they are providing plenty of opportunities to the students.

Japanese government providing following:

  • Up to 100% Educational Scholarships
  • Up to 100% Scholarship of living expenses.
  • Scholarship also covers travelling costs to and fro Japan.

In short scholarships cover your costs, starting from your classes, till completing your graduation and heading back home to your country.

But here comes the major part to attain the scholarships, there are mainly 5 types of scholarships available declared as of February, 2018

2. Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarships (MEXT)

Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarships(MEXT) are provided for Privately-Financed International Students.

To get the scholarship(MEXT) you have to appear for a scholarship exam conducted by japanese government and once it is cleared, you should get recommended by Japanese embassy in India.

3. Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) Scholarship.

It is provided for every privately (self financed) funded international student who gets admitted into a Japanese University.

4. Local Governments / Local International Associations Scholarships

  • These scholarships are provided by Local Governments. (Prefecture means a kind of state within Japan but it is not a state.) There are 10 prefectures who give these scholarships to attract more international students.

5. Privately Funded Scholarships

  • There are 95 private foundations which give various scholarships. About these scholarships you can find in the attached JASSO pamphlet.

6. Scholarships available abroad

  • List of 18 Name of Foundation /  Name of Scholarship can be found in the attached pamphlet.

As these scholarships are provided by various Japanese institutes and companies, you can apply and will come to know more about these scholarships only once you get admission in Japan Universities.

Herewith attached JASSO pamphlet (2019-2020). Still you can find more information at Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

From my personal  experience, if you have better Japanese language skills before you apply for university or scholarships the ease to get admissions. If you have better Japanese language skills it gives better opportunities.

But the medium of instruction is important in case you would like to proceed your education in English, because not all universities in japan provide English as their medium of instruction. But many public universities do provide English curriculum, so better check with the university registered about the curriculum before getting admitted.

Also as a student getting part time jobs is easy in japan, but you need at least minimal japanese language skills to make daily conversation.

In my case I got admitted into a Private University with 80% of scholarship, and I used to do part time jobs to manage my rest 20% of the fee and the living expense.

So if you have passion to learn and you are ready to work hard to get good outcomes japan is the right place for you without even spending a penny.
