What are few of these major opportunities in Japan for Commerce students?”
I sincerely acknowledge your overwhelming response to my earlier post on career opportunities for commerce students in Japan. I believe my posts on this subject will benefit many more aspirants in the future too.
Wish to update that many students, professionals, teachers have communicated with me and have sought clarification, suggestions and recommendations on the subject matter. Am glad I could be of good support in this matter.
As we move ahead, it is important to understand Japanese culture and its etiquettes – as these matters when we associate with Japan in every walk of life – including aspiring to have an excellent career in Japan. This will allow you to clearly understand Japanese education system and thereby make appropriate career choices.
Being mutually caring and supporting has an essence of Japanese culture. These aspects are inbuilt right from childhood and groomed further since early education. Japan is a nation which promotes collaborative approaches to bring success rather than performing individually.
One clearly witnesses this aspect of mutual care as soon as one sets foot on the soils of Japan and this gets noticed in every fragment of society in different forms. This I believe is really amazing and touching too. This aspect, I personally believe, is worth replicating as humankind in every part of the world. When the society conducts such experiences, automatically this becomes a Japans – national culture which receives highest respect. Mutual respect, gratitude coupled with being of service to each other automatically crafts the highest level of rich heritage and best working environments one can have. These aspects do attract the best talent from across the globe to the land of rising sun.
Well – how do these cultural aspects connect greatly with our professional work at Japan?
Definitely – the mutual care, collaborative approaches, team-work, supporting systems do play a pivotal role in enhancing professional culture too. When the working environment is mutually supportive and is built on a platform of win-win theory the outcome obviously will be ‘Winning together’. Supporting each other with getting best ideas, brainstorming for generating right solutions, cost-saving mechanisms, building a culture of trust, seeking higher level of responsibilities with pride become highly prominent in Japanese professional environment. Career therefore will definitely propel around developing positivity in thinking and outcome. It is largely experienced while in Japan that the mutual cooperation flows between professionals flawlessly irrespective of hierarchy or functions. Healthy growth is bound to happen in such an environment – be it organization, group, function or individual performance.
With the above perspective, what would you do at Japan – based on your current education?
As far as my experience tells me, there is enough flexibility to choose any other line of profession other than your core professional domain. It means you can choose to professionally perform in a different field which does not connect with your qualification e.g. commerce students can work in non-commercial fields, engineers can work in other areas of interest and passion etc.
There is a concept of specialization and on the same basis I came to Japan with more than 15 years of experience in finance and accounts and am still working in the same field.
On my first post, many people asked me about opportunities in Japan other than finance and accounts. As you might be studying or working in a different background other than finance and accounts.
And the answer is YES, there are ample opportunities available in Japan. It is also necessary to note that one has to get acquainted with social and collaborative skill too – it largely means that there is a need to acquaint and embed the Japanese cultural aspects too. Most important part of it is learning Japanese language. Learning Japanese as a language – is one of the most basic and important requirements.
Coming back to point, if you are Company Secretary (CS) or studying CS and working as Secretary in India then kindly note that you studied Indian Laws. It goes without saying that you need to similarly learn Japanese Law if you intend to pursue your career here as CS.
However, there are multiple other options available too –
Any person having CA / CS or CMA qualification or working in India can work here in Big4 audit firms or can work with various MNCs in Finance/ Accounts / Controlling or in the Audit department. There are numerous opportunities in the Logistics Supply Chain / Healthcare / Business support / Travel and tourism industry or Retail industry to name a few.
And for Design Artists there are excellent opportunities in Japan due to Anime culture. You need to get more knowledge about Japanese animation and its industry. If you start preparing yourself from now onwards to build more skill sets in animation then it will help you in the future to get a job in Japan. Proactive planning is important to move ahead in this zone.
Software professionals are also in demand in Japan due to the increasing interest and scope of AI (Artificial Intelligence). IOT (Internet of Things). As you know from my previous post, Japanese demography is posing unique professional challenges, and it therefore creates more dependency on advanced technologies, mechatronics, automation and robotics. If you are already into one of these professionals or students in the said domain, then definitely you have a chance to work in Japan.
It is essential to start learning Japanese language to make the right career move.
NOTICE
Japanese People are very honest and therefore known to be an honest country. Japan is free from corruption and illegal practices. So while dealing with such aspects, it is not necessary to give money for a job or such transactions. It could be a scam and one has to be alert.
Friendly advice – KINDLY DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY TO ANYONE TO ENTER IN JAPAN
It is essential to note that there are many scams prevalent in the market. Fake people or their organizations may ask for funds, commissions which can run into lakhs of rupees to provide you with Japanese work or student visas or any such connect with Japan. It is very important to do thorough study / research and then find the genuine (authorized agencies) and / or institutes to provide such services.
How to learn Japanese Language? Where to Learn?
You will be surprised to know that Japanese Language is found to be similar to Indian Language. Even though alphabets look different, the writing style is different, it’s grammar is as per Sanskrit language. Hence Japanese language is the same like Asian languages or Indian languages like Hindi / Marathi / Guajarati / Tamil.
As Japanese language is Asian language, it’s grammar pattern is different from western countries’ languages. This is the reason in my previous post I wrote that, even if you are not an expert in English even then you can learn Japanese language easily.
Indian Language Grammar is:
Subject (कर्ता) + Object (कर्म) + Verb (क्रियापद)
मी पाणी पितो
मै पानी पीता हु
Japanese Language Grammar is also:
Subject (कर्ता) + Object (कर्म) + Verb (क्रियापद)
Watashi (मी / मै) Mizu O (पाणी / पानी) nomimasu (पितो / पीता हु)
Wester Languages grammar are:
Subject + Verb + Object
I Drink Water
In Japanese language there are 3 scripts
1) Hiragana (Used for mainly Japanese origin words)
2) Katakana (Used to for other language words)
3) Kanji (Pictorial language adopted from China)
If you are interested in learning the Japanese language then you can start learning Hiragana and Katakana by yourself. There are many lessons available on Google , YT or through mobile applications.
Based on my own experience I am telling people that, you can do it yourself and there is no need to join classes immediately to learn these Hiragana and Katakana scripts.
Once you know these scripts then join classes.
For Japanese Language certification there are various tests available but most people choose JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) as it’s well recommended across the world.
There are 5 Levels as below:
N5 – Beginner Level (first exam)
N4 – Basic Level
N3 – Intermediate Level
N2 – Business Level
N1 – Native Level
As per above levels N2 – Business Level Certification is necessary to enter in Japan for work. Tentatively within 3 years you can clear all four levels up to N2. It is a good opportunity for 11th / 12th and College students to learn Japanese language while you are studying. This will give you additional mileage to seek good career options at Japan.
I would recommend you / students / professionals taking the easy way which is, to learn language in your mother tongue. You can get classes in your mother tongue. This is easy to learn in your mother tongue rather than English as a mediator.
I have given the teacher’s name and number on my blog as many people asked me about the Language Teaching classes. You can contact this respectable teacher too.
